Dash Cap vs New Dash
I'll put pick of broken crack up. Nomad seems pretty picky about his car being as close to perfect as he can get!
There are other issues. I'm taking a break for lunch and because I'm aggravated.
To start I had the dash out and the padding removed from the plastic frame. I reassambled the dash with out cover. The previous owner had screwed the top edge in two into the metal dash. All the screw holes will be hidden by the pad. It is sunny and 45 deg out so not too bad to work outside.
The crack. There are also scuffs on the pass side.
I used the holes to anchor the top of the pad down in two laces.
How it was screwed.

I'm working with the broken cover so as not to damage the good one.
The cover doesn't match the contour of the dash. It is good 90%
from the pass side, the middle, till half across the instrument panel. At the vin tag it is off 1/2". If I push it it buckles up.Maybe the unbroken one will fit.

well the new cap is the same. I think I wil have to glue the top down. wait a day and then anchor the front and bottom.I'll have a gap near the vin tag. it seems like I'd need to take a pie slice just over the instrument panel, to make it fit. That would look worse.
We made up some wedges from wood, plus stacked weight in spots when we did the last one to get it to lay down until the caulk set up. Had to put some rubber on the wedges where it wedged against the winshield so they wouldn't slip and let the cap rise before it dried.
I'm going to do another one after the 1st of the year, as a friend needs his replaced. Hopefully it will go as well as past ones, and they haven't changed suppliers to something that fits poorly.

while fitting the cap All the plastic looked dingy. I disassembled it and cleaned and repainted.
I stole a page from BB (looks kinda crappy)LOL. I ndidn't have any paper towels.
I have only glued the top down. It fit better with out any packing on the top. Tomorrow I will see if I can fit the rest.It is hard to tell until the top is set. I still have the gap at the VIN Tag.
It looks like below the instrument panel will be the next challenge!
