I've read Ecklers is the best fit. But really yours looks fine. Fitting aftermarket stuff will always be a compromise.

Default Dash Pad Replacement

Looks like you are having a few issues with the cap. I replaced the entire pad. The tabs for the gauge cluster were gone on the original. I got it all in and set. The only issues I had was the screws underneath were about 1/8th inch off where the bottom portion of the pad connects to the lower panel with the glove box. Took a plastic door panel tool to pry and it lined up good once together. The pad is OER. It was a bit too long side to side but I cut it with a coping saw in the car. That way seemed better cause I did not cut too much. Other than that the fit was good for my 75. Will take pics and post tomorrow. I also replaced the gauge cluster case and that went real well. Ordered the wrong bezel though so I gotta send it back for the right one. Got it all from Classic Industries. Just a different view not an argument against a dash cap.

Sounds like a 50 50 shot on cap or dash pad!
I'm still working on mine.
The top is all glued and set. Now I'm glueing the bottom. The direction state "do not glue the middle."
Bungees to hold it in place.
A piece of styro I used to pack out places that needed support.

Okay, so like my username says, I'm 16 and my father gave me his uncle's 1977 Camaro. It has only 16,000 miles on it because my fathers uncle had cancer and long story short, he never drove it. The engine was in great condition, I just had to rebuild the carburetor. I finally have a job and I'm working on the interior first. I came across the question just the like the man above asked. Do I need a whole new dash compartment or can I just buy the cap, I'm not sure how bad his dash was but in my car there was no dash whatsoever. Thank you. And as you can see in the picture there is no dash.

Welcome to the site.Your picture did'nt show up,but if there is no dash at all then you would need to get a dash pad which is the dash part itself,a dash cap is just a cover that will go over the pad to cover up cracks, holes, etc.A dash pad is fairly expensive new,i would look on your local craigslist and you may be able to find a decent one used.Since your car is a 77,i believe the dash from 70-78 are all the same so that may make it easier to find one used.

Rydeer, I thought the same thing about the mileage and dash, just doesn't seem right.

Don't those speedos turn over at 100,000 and restart at zero again?
