Default Consol/Dash shifter display connection

Hello,
I have a 1978 Camaro Z28. It is an automatic with a console shifter. I have a rod that comes from behind the dash in the engine compartment that I think should connect to the trans shift linkage somehow. I think I am missing the bracket that this rod fits into, so the dash display (park, drive, reverse, etc..)will work correctly. Does anyone know what this part is called or where I could find it?
Thanks,
John
