Default camaro engine vin#

i found out my car is really a 72 from my dad and i was wondering what kind of engine i have. The stock engine should be a 307 from the vin# on the dash but i wanted to see if the engine was the original or if it had another one in. Does anyone know where i can find the numbers on my engine. THanks

the block, in the rear, maybe take it out and just pull it up to take a look. bid deal though. The heads will tell you if its original heads or not though. thats easy. look on the las 3 numbers of the head casting numbers (under the valve covers) and go to goole and type in the number. then see if its from your year camaro and you should be pretty sure. If they are the same heads, its probubly the same engine since not too many people put 305 (307) heads on a 350 and who swaps a 307 for another 307 or anything but a 350 or larger?

On my '79 the last four or five digits of my VIN are stamped on the front pass side of the engine block near the head. On mine they match. Let me know what your heads casting numbers are.
