You can buy a conversion box that deletes the suitcase for about 100-150 bucks. I had one until I smoothed my firewall. I'll sell it for 75. Its still new.

The box like mentioned above, makes a huge difference in appearance and room under the hood, plus you can keep the heat with them. All you have to do is move the blower motor on to the new box,and then move the 2 electrical parts,1 is the resistor,i forget what the other is called, but that about it.Here is a pic of mine installed so you can see how much more room and how much better they look than that huge a/c box.I busted my heater core trying to get the hoses off though,so if you do this just take it easy on the hoses,i got in a rush and bent the tube which caused a leak.

If you ever take the box off the firewall to replace the core (and you aren't worried about keeping things OEM) you should cut the box in half so the core half can be removed easily in the future. I modified mine this way after the first heater core episode and I swore I'd never do that again. Simply cut it before I reinstalled it, then tack welded a piece of sheetmetal on the core half that overlaps the blower half.
Took me all of less than 1 hour to replace my heater core last time!

Its on the shelf. I offer it up for sale when people ask about deletes but I'm not actively trying to sell it.
