Default body work

i gotta question....would it be very hard to take the body off of my 79 from the subframes. and have the body towed to the body shop i picked and have them do rockers and quaters and anything else that would need to be fixed???or is it better to leave it on. i figure it would be good so i could paint the frame. but at the same time. it could be much more costly and something could go wrong. but what do others think of that idea??

Hmmm...i like the idea of taking off the body and getting it worked on,,but like u said, it would be costly. Depending on how bad it is,,i woullld take off the body if it needed a lot of body repair, but if not,,just leave it on and buy new fenders and bumpers as u need them.

Ok I'll tell you my plans for my car....Both Qrts and rockers were replaced..so they are all set..I decided to save money and get a mig flux/Gas and start welding junk metal to learn on...that way whenI strip mine downI can repair anything I find.....For the front of the car, I'n just going to buy both fenders and both door shels (not skin's) that will be like $1200...This will make sure that they are 100% solid and save time in sanding, welding, fixing small dents......I think it would be cheaper to buy the whole new front clip then to haveshop fix and paint the old.
As far as the welding is..you would be suprised as to just how easy it is once you start toyin with it.

honestly, i have plans on taking the body off for the same reason, i look at it as, if someone wants to do a small restoration to their car then go ahead and take off the body, cuz what you really want is something to look really good and you pop the hood and all you see is the most rusty part of the car, and this is where the subframes come into the picture, now, if the frame isn't bad, or if its just a little bit of surface rust, i would really worry about taking it off then cuz you can just go underneath it with like a wire brush or something fine, and just sand away at it and then paint the frame that way, cuz putting on new panels and doors are easy whether or not the body is off or not, but its up to you.
