Default best engine to use?

I have a 1980 Z28, and it currently has a 350 in it. However, the engine is about to go, and if not, theres too much going on to keep putting money into. So its time for an upgrade!! I was curious on what others thought would be the best engine for me. I want something that has some potential to be built up a little bit so I can take it to the track. I dont know if I should stick with a 350, put a 383 stroker, or go big with a 454? So if anyone could help me out I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Mike

Rebuild to 383 you will save a little cash. And this way you get what you want and you alwase can upgrade from that point. If your 350 is still runing then it can be saved and rebuilt to what you want.

I agree GO BIG. I have a 454 big block in my 80 Z28. Big blocks fill out the engine bay well they look so cool. Huge headers almost hitting. The other good thing is they fill the engine bay but they are still pretty easy to work on to. I say go BIG BLOCK

Always depends on personal preference. Big blocks cost more and seem to have more issues. Small blocks are easy to work on and are pretty maintenance friendly. If you want to save gas and have something you can take around without ha.ving to worry about your mpg then small block is your best bet. You can still get some really good power out of sbc's without breaking the bank.

383 without a doubt. Excellent drivability and great power.

The ZZ4 is a great engine. GM also offers a 383 version for about a grand more. In the end it is up to you. If you already have some parts on her i would just rebuild. If you are replacing every thing go with a turn key. If it was me i would stay small block but thats just me.

ya i hear ya guys...i think im sticking with a 350 or 383, mainly for the maintenance factor. I'll let you know this weekend whats goin on once I pull the top end off and check things out and see how bad she is.
