aluminum heads are the way to go,,,they will only hurt you if you raise the compression,,,,what size engine do you have now,,,a 350 has 76cc camber heads and a 305 has 58cc camber heads,,considering it is the origanal engine,,,you can run 11.1 compression with a alum. head and still get away with pump gas,,,but the more you raise your compression the more camshaft you with have to add,,also the more you raise your compresion the hotter the engine will run also,,,if it is a 350 you can get alot of power with heads and cam,,,,i had a 350 with 58cc camber heads (which bumped up the compresion to 10.5.1) and a bigger cam (if you are going to do this i will let you know the specs),,and the car in street trim went 12.42 in the quarter,,,not bad for $1500,,,,what ever you do stay away from the pro comp heads

well if it is not the origanal engine from the car then pull a valve cover off and get the numbers so you can check and see what cc camber they are,,,a 1980 camaro 350 would have 76 cc cambers,,,,but being it is not the 80 camaro engine it could have 64 66 70 72 76 cc cambers,,,this is what you need to now before you do anything,,,also how many miles are on the engine because if it is a high milage engine chances are it will start to knock when the top end see's the pressure
