Maybe that's what the guy was talking about, said they're hard to fine but he's looking for them for me!

With a 4L60E, you will have to get an aftermarket stand alone controller to work the up/down shifts. That trans has shift solenoids on the valve body that the 700R4 doesn't, which is what makes the 700R4 an easier swap. With either trans, if the lockup feature is kept, you have to make sure the t.c. locks in, otherwise you can end up burning up the trans. Reason is, the lockup style torque converter, when not locked up, will slip more than a conventional non-lockup converter does. Keeping it unlocked will generate more heat, shortening the life of the trans.

Not sure I understand exactly what you're saying about making sure the converter locks in? With regard to using the toggle switch, if I do this swap will I have to use the toggle switch when I drive anywhere all the time? Let's say I was driving around town, if the speed limit was 35mph and I wanted to stay in "drive" would I be able to do that or would I always be flippin' a switch no matter what? That's what is confusing me. I'm compelled to do this swap as I would like to be able to drive further distances on occasion. Where I live in Northern Michigan the speed limit in town is 35 but if I wanted to drive to my rental house 40 miles south of town the speed limit is 55 the whole way. That's when the o/d would be used and appreciated.

You can have a 700R4/4L60 rebuilt with the lockup feature removed, and you would then use a non-lockup converter. What I was saying is, if you keep the lockup feature, which you'll probably want to do, you do want to hook it up so the t.c. locks up. It can be bad for the trans if you have a lockup converter that doesn't lock up. Follow? I would just get the module that locks and unlocks the t.c automatically, it's in the $100 range. Let me look, I thought I once saw a write up on the toggle switching method.

I think I follow...The module that you speak of sounds like that's the thing for me. The module would eliminate the toggle switch then? I like to know the why's and why not's but don't want to frustrate anyone with my ignorance on this topic. I'm confident the guy building the trans will be able to guide me properly but if there's a "better way" to go about doing this that's what I'm after. I'd appreciate reading the article if you find it also. Thank you.

You have a number of options for lockup control kits: Search Results for 700R4 lockup - SummitRacing.com

Does the module monitor vaccuum?

Thank you. I've looked at that stuff also, but it's like trying to understand Swahili for me right now. I checked out Monster Transmission's website also. Would be great to just buy one of their conversion kits but it's about a grand more than I'm being charged by the guy who'll build me one. So... Think I've decied on a 700r4 and I'll let someone who knows what the hell they're talking about hook me up with the right setup. Big thanks again for sharing your knowledge with me. Appreciate the help.
