AC Delete

AC Delete
I'm wanting to do an AC Delete on my 78. I still want to have the heater working when done. I gather that the best time to do this is when the motor is out of the car as it just easier to get to. BUT what needs to be done to do this if the motor is still in the car? Will the inner fender need to be removed? What about fender itself? I was going to do this when I changed motors, but I may have a shop do the motor swap now so I will need to do the delete at a different time.

It's a pretty easy thing to do even with the motor in the car.No the inner fender or fender either one, does not need to come off,the only thing you need to take off is the passenger side tire, wheel well, and the old a/c box.Once you remove the wheel, and the well, you can get to the box fairly easily, the bolts under the inner fender are still a bit tricky to get to,but with patience you can get it without to much trouble.

No problem,i had the same questions before i did mine, only difference is i let the delete box sit on the shelf for 3 months before i finally asked, because i thought i had to pull the inner fender and that was something i really didn't want to do haha.Another bit of advice, make sure to seal the edges of the new box when you install it.I have seen some people use butyl tape,or something similar, but i went to home depot and some stuff you put in a regular caulking gun,it's made for heating and a/c duct work,i forget the name, but it is a black caulking basically, then i just ran a thick bead all the way around the inside edge of the box where it touches the firewall.

Must be different on later 2nd gens. My heater box wouldn't come off without pulling the back edge of the inner fender and pulling it down enough to let it come out.

Are you talking about the black wheel well part or the actual inner fender that the wheel well bolts to?My car is an 80,but all i had to do was take the wheel well part out,the delete box i bought said for 70-81 so i figured they would all be about the same.

Learn something new everyday i guess haha,i always thought the inner fender was the part under the hood that comes down below the lip of the fender, the part that the wheel well bolts to,guess i was wrong.
