79 camaro rear end?
I have a 79 camaro rear end under my 1950 chevy truck. I believe it is 2.73. The camaro that it came out of was a 305 turbo 350. I used the rear end because it was what I had availble at the time. Now I am tired of the turd, as you can imagine. Any sugestions on what I should do. 3.73 posi maybe? Where should I look for another rear end? I am looking at 400 to 500 hp.
well, assuming by your goal of 400-500 horses, I gather that you won't be driving it a whole lot? Even if you do, what you can do is get a 700r4 built up to take that much power. That way you not only get a super-steep first gear, but you get the .7:1 OD gear as well. So, you could still do 4.11 and be able to drive it on the highway, or you could go 3.73 and still be able to take off pretty darn well with the steep 1st gear in it.
I hope you don't have the stock '50 Chev front straight axle in that truck.
I remember my old roomie's '50 Chev PU with just a good running 283 and Muncie car 4 speed in place of the old 216 straight six was nearly impossible to keep going in a straight line,400hp would have been frightening.

Auto or stick? either way that stock 10 bolt with a posi carrier in it will eventually fail with that much power,it will last a while with an auto possibly.
A 12 bolt posi from a first gen Camaro Z28/SS or a '68-'72 Nova SS would be a nice fit,I wouldn't think a lot of high speed driving will be in order in that old truck even if subframed so I'd go with lower gears for a good launch, maybe 4:10's.
