Just make sure you find EVERY piece that breaks off, or you'll be replacing the rearend soon!

do any of you guys know if any local stores, autozone ect sell the cross pin? i got the bolt but cant find the pin anywhere. searched orileys, autozone and napa.

Most likely because the pin isn't a commonly sold replacement part to make it worth keeping one in stock. Rockauto.com has em, and a GM dealership might too.

I found mine at orileys in the section that has ''help'' stamped on everything.

The hardest part will be getting anyone at the chain stores who can find it in their system! Even if they have it, it will be a miracle if you can locate it online, or in the store!

got the new shaft pin from a chevy dealer near me. guy told me the part number changed 3 times over the years. here is a pic of the part # if anyone ever needs it.

Are you changing the entire rear end or just installing internals. It's a bit confusing when you state that the 3.73's are in and then you're back to removing the center pin with a hammer. I'm interested because the photo you posted on pg.1 of the diff w/o the cover looks like it had a 2 series gear in it.

I've always dropped the rear shackles on the leaf springs to drop them, and simply slid the housing down the springs to remove. Much easier than dismantling the rearend, or fighting exhaust and backing plates over the springs.
