Default Can Anyone Tell Me What I'm Working With Here?

So, my uncle passed away, and his '74 Camaro was his pride and joy. He had Lou Gherig's Disease for 15 years so the car hasn't been driven in quite some time. It was repainted about 7 years ago but the engine is struggling to idle.

Here is the only picture I had time to grab today. I'm a Mustang guy (own a 2007 GT/CS), but I'd love to fix it up in memory of him. He has an 11 year old son who wants the car when he is old enough to drive.

Can ya'll give me any information based on this?

Definitely would try a tune up. New spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter should do the trick. Carb might need tuned too. I check over all the wires too. Make sure none got chewed up by a critter. Please post more pictures, that blue paint looks really good.

Sorry about the loss in the family too. I know how it feels. Been down that road one too many times all ready.

I agree with everything he said usually can do all that and it should start right up. Good idea to drain the gas out and put fresh gas and some engine cleaner in the fuel. We just inherited a 57 thundeerbird did everything he said plus the gas and it cranked up anfter about 6 tries, May also want to throw in a new battery. Go buy some carb cleaner and clean it our real good. Does it have gas in it now?

In addition to the tune up, you'll definitely want to rebuild the carb, drain the gas tank, and flush the fuel system. Not only is the old gas in the tank dead, it may be slimy or full of moisture too. And the seals, needle & seat in the carb are likely to be dried out and leaking.

Thanks everyone.

It does have gas in it. We started it today and it started up but the idle is really labored. It's modded and I don't know what has been done to it but I don't think it's anything major.

I'll try to get more pictures when I go to work on it. It does look really good.

Do ya'll know what it is based on that picture? There were a few different engines in the '74s weren't there?

There are only two motors in 74... an inline 6 (250 cubes) and a few styles of 350CID motors... one 2Brl carb at 145 HP and three 4V motors.... 160 HP to 245 HP (Z28) looks like you have a real find there to play with. WE forgive you for the Mustang even...

Welcome to the Forum!!

Defiantly a 350. Check the 5th digit of the VIN. H means 350 w/ 2bbl, K is 350 with 4bbl, and T would mean it's a 350 Z28. Hope for a T.

It should be a lot of fun. Thanks for the help everyone! I'll be sure to keep ya'll updated when I can get the VIN (may be a few days).

It's definitely a sweet car. I'm partial to my Baja (picture below), but this Camaro is definitely mean looking, and for an occasion like this, I can definitely put the disputes aside and fix it up in memory of my Uncle.

That's my pride and joy. At least we can agree that nothing beats the sound of some American Muscle!

I like the wheels! Not too fancy about the fog lights though. Other than that, not bad looking..for a Mustang.
