70 camaro weatherstripping

now i noticed my trunk was filled with water, its coming in around my taillights, the gaskets look good but they seem to fit kinda loose around the chrome ring. how should they fit chrome ring all the way flush or like mine i see about 1/4 inch rubber gasket around the taillight?

Ya my roof rail stripping fit fairly well, didn't require to a whole lot of pushing and prodding to get it to fit and it was perfect length wise as well as already having the little push pin things to hold it in place molded into them.

plus it was nice n soft. I think I need to adjust my window regulator or something because there is a spot on both sides that has about an 1/8 inch gap in the top rear corner of the window and it was like that before I did the new weatherstripping.

Weatherstripping is a pain, and frustrating. It takes a lot of patience to break it in, and I'm not sure why. I'm sure the factory never had to break in weatherstripping, so why can't today's makers build it the same way?
I spent a week adjusting my doors to get them to finally latch and fit properly, then had to spend several weeks gradually raising the windows to compress the window weatherstrip and get it to cloase and seal.
To this day I can't lower the windows if they're fully up and the door is closed. Just too tight. I have to open the door and lower the window a few inches, then it will go the rest without any problem.
I leave it sitting all winter with the windows down in the garage, and the car cover over it. I'll probably have to fight it again this spring when I start using the car again.

I cant understand that either after 40 yrs you would think the new stuff would fit better. I am wondering are all the other after market parts gonna be just as bad? Im not sure who the best suppliers are? I guess for interior im gonna buy PUI brand, not sure about mechanical items such as fuel sending unit.

I found the PUI interior parts were really good stuff. Everything I purchased from them was high quality, and my supplier had good prices on them too. $100 for a pair of door panels, and $55 for the headliner.
As for who makes the best stuff; I think that's all over the place. Best to find a supplier who is good at choosing what products they sell, and rely on them to buy the best parts. I've found National Parts Depot and Biscay's Classic Chevy carry the best stuff. I don't think I've ever purchased a part from NPD that wasn't a nice looking, and fitting part.
