on a side note... he brought the car in today to get some 265's put on the back wheels, he's happy with the exhaust apparently...

and it sounds pretty good. a little "poppy"

putting the muffler further back aleaviates this, correct? better quality sound?
Yes! Putting the mufflers farther back will reduce the "poppy" sound. An X pipe will reduce the individual firings, and even it out, but wont stop the "poppy" sound that's created from too long a tailpipe after the muffler. Besides there's no room for an X pipe with the mufflers that close.

Holy cow! Now that's beyond funny! Never seen such a combination of welded and flex pipe, and not temporary! And somebody's actually proud of that?

It was nasty right? The muffs hanging out the end like a ricer were the highlight.

I have wondered why the younger ricer crowd is so infatuated with showing off their mufflers? When did it become cool to have your mufflers hanging out there to look at? I've always liked having them tucked away where they're pretty much out of sight.

The stock location for most is the same as the fart cans you see. My civic had about 12" of tail pipe.

Most the imports with stock muffler don't seem to stand out a much as the afftermarket ones. OEM seem to be less "in your face".

I agree. My buddy had a Saturn w/ a fart can. Holy crap you would have thought it added 50 more H.P. I hated riding in it because he would dog the **** out of it. We weren't going fast enough to scare an old lady.

Then I sold him my 87 Camaro w/ a built 305. I still hated riding with him. Stomp the gas to the floor and then lift and stomp, lift and stomp. This was while racing. I tried to explain he was making us go slower. It never sunk in. We aren't on speaking terms now. LOL

sounds like a real genius.

but as long as it sounds and feels like you're going fast, you really are...right?

I see you're in Salem about 50 miles south of me. I might try to make some cruisin's down there next summer! Need to do some road trips with the Camaro and the Austin.

definitely! i hope to have it driving by then. its going to be a fairly cheap build i think, so fingers crossed.

only spending a few hundred on paint, going with mat black hot rod paint, all of the special custom stuff and machine work for the engine is whats really gonna kill me.

if not i'll just roll in the pontiac
