Something to remember about crate engine power. Power for both crate engines andvehicle specific engines is measured on anengine dyno. However; crate engine power is measured without most accessories attached (except for the water pump), and with an optimized intake and exhaust. This is done because the builder has no idea of how and where the engine will be used, so the builder tries to publish the best power numbers possible. On the other hand, the car manufacturer test the car specific engine with all the accessories attached, and the intake and exhaust systems that will be used in the car that the engine is destined to. All that this means is that car manufactured with a 300 HP engine will produce more power at the wheels that one that has a 300 HP crate engine installed.

FYI: Your rear should have no effect on the Dyno test. A 300 HP engine should test 300 HP if its setup of 1/8 mile 1/4 mile or top end. You will lose some rear wheel HP due to the drive line. The torque converter on your tranny could cost you 10-15%.
