Default 2nd gen vs. 4th gen

ok so i have the 1980 with the 350 and i figure its pushing out about 300hp and if im not mistaken thats about what a lt-1 camaro makes?...but i was jw whitch is lighter..my guess is the 4th gen.......im trying to decide wether to sell ym car and grab a 4th gen (lt-1 is all i could afford if i did) or keep my car..but idk what a better starting point..like if my car alredy has the power and weigth of an lt-1 then i mise well start there insted of getting a whole new car..but if the4th genis a better starting point then ill go that route....(my car still needs alot of work befor i can sell it for enough to even out for the 4th but befor i go too much into making my car the way i want it. i wanna see what i have to work with.......if im gonna sell it ill just make it presentable and fix up the loose ends....so pretty much my question is...with 3:73 gears would ibe evenwith or beat a lt-1 camaro?

I have a 70 with a zz4 350 (carb) AND a 2000 Z28 350 LS1. I cant really compare them, since the 2000 is much more "civilized" (computerized fuel/air delivery). The 70 has the feel of a more raw grab your *** in the seat and hold on kind of thing, but has more HP rating. If I HAD to put them both together and race them, I think the newer Z28 would win. I love them both, and my insurance company loves me.

The most power that was available from the factory on the 1980 Camarowas 190 HP with a 350 engine, and only on the Z28 model. The 4th gen Z28 with LT1 engines, were rated from the factory anywhere from 275 to 285 HP (305 HP w/SS package) depending on year and model. So unless you modified the engine on your 1980 car, the 4th gen LT1 cars have a pretty serious power advantage right from the factory.

the motor in my car is way far from stock from what the p/o told me it was a crate motor bought for a 4x4 blazer and the blazer was rolled to the point that it was scraped and the motor was put in my car....then it sat till i got it and i rebuilt it....and it was pobably a cheap crate motor and online the lowes price andhp crate i found was 290hp and it has headers and a intake so i was hopein if it was that motor then it would be around 300hp

Putting a 300 HP engine in car will not out run a car designed to have 325 HP. I read a artical in hot rod about a guy who had a first gen BB and a 4th gen LS1. Both car ran low 12s. He said the big differents is the 69 scared him, every run he seem like he was on the edge. With99 he did it with one arm out the window and cranking tunes.

My earlier post was stickly about which car is faster. If you got rid of 80 you would regret it. My first car was a 74 Type LT 350/4speed. I got it when I was 15. I sold it when I was 23. I remember thinking, its just a 74 these things have almost no value. 20 years later I have my dream car and I can buy just about any Camaro I want. I am looking for a 74 Type LT
