Default 2nd gen exhaust vs 3rd question

Hi I'm new to this forum and I searched around for an answer and couldn't seem to find one. I might be purchasing a 74 camaro. To my knowledge it isn't a Z28 or anything special. My question is how is the exhaust set up on the 2nd gen camaro's? I have a 91 Z28 and I was curious as to if the exhaust set up was just as stupid?

Hard to say how a '74 would be set up after 37 yrs. Originally they were either single or dual exhaust with a transverse muffler above the rear axle. Many got full duals with dual mufflers when rebuilt over the years. Mnay of the aftermarket kits are for this setup, and the mufflers sit under the rear seats in these kits.

If you mean the way they were run. No, second gens have a better lay out. No matter what the exhaust.

Like 1971BB427 mentioned, factory they would have the transverse style muffler with dual tail pipes.Unlike a 3rd gen though, these early cars are very easy to put a real dual exhaust on and not cause clearance issues with the ground. Here's how mine is,my mufflers are at the same hieght as my rear end housing,so no worries of scraping.

plain and simple what i learned from also having an 88 trans am, with 3rd gens, you cant go true duals because the cross member will crush the pipes so you're stuck with a y pipe and a 1 in 2 out muffler. 2nd gens, you can do whatever the hell you want, including true duals.
