If there's no air going into the box from the broken area I think you're fine. The orange wire with the adapter on it looks like the electronic kickdown for a TH400 transmission or atleast that what mine looked like when I had it.

The black wire almost looks like a thick HEI tach wire. Not 100% sure on that as I think they were brown.

The two suggestions with wires that I just made are more guesses than actual knowledge. Without being there to trace them I couldn't be 100% sure.

The "mystery box" in #8 is your AC unit.

I didnt see any hoses or possible air channels through this protusion, thats what bothers me though. Its a pretty precise mold they had just so this odd thing will pop out, so I figure it has to do something....then again, it is gm.

Sorry I shouldve been more clear, mystery prtotrusion, not mystery box, but now I guess that gives me something to call it.

If I can remember I'll pull my old box down out of storage and take a look at it tomorrow.

I just went outside and looked at my ac box. There is a plastic protrusion on the right side(if your facing it). There's a vacuum operated ball thing bolted to it, but it (the protrusion) doesn't look like anything important. the ball thing could probably be bolted down somewhere else.

Default It is supposed to be there

the mystery protrusion from the box is a drain. (supposed to be there). Inside the housing is the Evaporator for the A/C which produces large amounts of condensation and needs to drain the condensation. sometimes these have a hose attatched. I dont believe that is the case here.

Mystery box is your heater core. I've seen it removed but you won't have heat or cold air

It isnt the heater core...the heater core is inside under the right side of the dash, this is the A/C condenser.
