Default 1974 Camaro Gear Shifter Location?

I have a question that I am trying to get answered.
When I was around 17 years old (13 years ago).
I bought a 1974 Straight 6 Cyl. for $600.
I ripped all the interior out , including carpet..
The car still had the original consoleor at least I assume
it was. My question is how rare is it to have a 1974
Camaro with an Automatic Tranmission , FACTORY on
the column? I have tried reseaching the issue on a ton
of different websites and have had no luck in finding an
answer. I know it was stock as like i said , pulled the carpet...
and there were no holes where the shifter would have been
through the floor. Also the console has the spot where one would
have been , but was never actually punched out for the shifter.
I am trying to find out how rare it is and possibly how many were
made. Every picture or detailed desciption I can find shows it located
in the center console , which we have all seen. Any help , would be great...
