If you can't find spacers, then you can use the next size larger nut as a spacer under the bracket.

Thank you, Kyphur, the pictures are very detailed. I can't tell if that is on the side of the transmission or on the pan... My bracket does not look like the one in your picture so I have it attached only at one place for now. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do or how I can get one like the one in your pictures? I was thinking of looking up the linkage at the B&M website or something like that.

@ 1971BB427, yes, that is what I ended up doing. I used a nut instead of buying a spacer.

Here are some pictures of what I have going on...

Hmmm, try these:

Bracket with lever

or:
Just the bracket

I would go ahead and get the bracket with the transmission lever since they're pretty much guaranteed to work together. That's how I bought mine and it saved a lot of time. The previous owner somehow slapped together a bunch of junk parts for his and it was barely working. When I put the transmission back in from the rebuild it took me forever just to get the geometry somewhat close. I just said screw it and went and got the bracket and lever from a local performance store that just happened to have it in. A customer ordered it and never picked it up so I got it. Seemed like something was in my favor that day, ha ha.

Wow, thanks. I think I will go ahead and get the bracket and the lever together. I feel your pain with the previous owner's horrors. The thing that pisses me off a bit, but at the same time makes me ashamed, was that I had this transmission rebuilt 6 years ago. I was 18 and naive so I did not know whether they guy did a good job. Then the car was parked for 5 years while I served in the Army. Now I am thinking that I got a little ripped off. I paid $500 for the rebuild. Crap.
