I have the same engine stand that I purchased from Harbor freight and it is holding an all iron 454 out of a Chevy pickup with no problems

If that is the one then yes but I would put a 2x4 under the balancer to the base. A word of warning. I bought one a few years back. When it arrived the bars that bolt to the block were not the usual 1" box tubing that is the norm for stands. Instead there was a piece of 1" wide steel probably 0.080" was bent into a "U" then it had a piece of water pipe welded into the open end. It wasn't even welded good or square for that matter. The welds looked way too hot and half the strap was melted away. I was scared with just a bare small block on there.

You get what you pay for. I paid $40 for that one. I built a bar out of 2" box with a nut welded in the end. I used threaded rod to in the nut so I could prop the front of the engine up. It got stolen with the motor on it so I don't know if it held up.

It will hold it, but not well, and it will be a real chore to work on it and hold it. I've had my 427 on the same stand and with a short block it was a piece of cake. Once I started installing those big old heads the engine began to sag pretty good, and I definitely couldn't do any head torquing on the stand! It was scarey trying to turn the engine over to install the heads, and once one head was on I couldn't turn the engine anymore. I used my cherry picker to hold the front of the engine's weight while turning it.
I ended up adding a brace at an angle from the upright to the base and made it a bolt in so I could disassemble it for storage. With extra bracing it does just fine.

One of mine is very similar. I picked it up at Harbor Freight for around $40 + tax with the 20% off coupon. I have a L67 GM 3800 V6 on it and it works great. I have a 350 that needs to be on a stand so I bought the 2000 lb capacity stand again from Harbor Freight and it's a whole lot sturdier. I don't think I'd trust a big block on that 1000 lb stand. Plus, it's easy to turn the V6 but a big block would be a whole lot tougher.

If you have a Harbor Freight close by it looks like it would be cheaper for the 1000 lb stand after you take the shipping into account. I got the 2000 lb stand for about $90 with the 20% off coupon. I'd go for that one if you want to put a big block on.
