Default fuel tank leak near sending unit

Hello all
i am brand new to this forum. I am also a new owner of a 80% restored 67 Camaro.
I recently baught this SS clone after looking at it and driving it.
no complaints until now. I just filled up the tank for the first time and low and behold
I have a leak coming from the passenger side of the tank by the fuel line.
the thing that has me very worried is that the leak looks to have OIL in it.
the leak is black and oil based mixed with feul.
any idea's
i do have some mechanical skills and I am able to do some work however this has me a little weary.
no i dea why or how oil would get into the tank unless its carbon but again seems like oil to me

The gas could be leaking down and loosening some undercoating that may have been sprayed on. Before ripping anything apart, make sure your gas cap is a vented style. I once replaced my cap with a shiny new one that was supposed to be vented. It didn't vent well at all, so the tank pressurized and forced gas past the sending unit gasket. I put the old cap back on, and the sending unit didn't leak at all.
