Default Engine ID problem

Hello I have a 1967 camaro convertible and am having a real problem identifying the engine thats in it. It is a 283 with casting number 3896944. It has a suffix code of GF. The casting number comes back to a 67 283 but the suffix code doesn't match that. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There were a few GF suffix codes, one being 1969 vintage. At first I was wondering if you have an oddball block that sat around for some reason and wasn't used till later? Is your engine numbers matching, because that casting number shows to be for Chevelle and passenger cars. Maybe it fell behind a table in the factory like what happens at the post office?
