Default Electrical Problem?

When I drive my car it occasionally starts flippin' out.

My volt meter jumps all over the place. My tach starts jumping also. All the lights (interior and exterior) start flickering. Sometimes it will go away and sometimes it will stay that way?

I had Kragen run all tests on the battery (battery is good). I checked all the wires and grounds. Everything checks out okay.

This happened on my old motor. I rebuilt the motor and installed a new one-wire alternator and I also replaced the Summit HEI distributor with an Accel HEI distributor. Still having the same problem.

While this flickering occurs it seems like it doesn't charge the battery either. My batter will run down (only when the flickering is occuring).

Help!

Sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere, the problem is finding it because it is intermittent. You said the wires and grounds are good. However; you may want to revisit them. Make sure all battery, ground, and alternator connections are clean and tight, scrape off any rust or corrosion. Wiggle them around with the engine ruining & see if you can bring the trouble in.

you could have a loose connection my friends father experienced the same thing and he also had a 1 wire alternator and he put the original two wire alternator back in and it was fine so he bought a new alternator that was the same as the original and it worked perfectly fine you might want to see if that is the problem also
