Default Engine Knock

Frustrated! I have a knock in my 396 that I cannot seem to get rid of. It's very mild at start idle and increases as I give it gas. The motor has a mid cam, hydrolic lifters, roller rockers, holley 750 and headers. I have tried the following:
fixed a small vacum leak
replaced the lifters and push rods
tried to adjust the carb (not much action on the air fuel adjustments)
adjusted the timing

Any thoughts?

could it be the plugs?

I also have 2-1/4 dual exhaust

If you will take out our manual if you still have it. It says that mild knocking is normal, but you might want to check that your putting the correct octane fuel in the thing. Most people don't pay any mind to the octane they put into their motors, but try putting 88 in a corvette it doesn't go over very well. I think the recommended is 92 octane fuel which means you gotta go with premium fuel.

The only reason I wrote this simple solution is because you never stated that you were putting in premium fuel.

Good luck sorry I couldn't be more help.

Good call benjamin. I was thinking the same thing. but was hoping to read 'ping' instead of knock.... I guess it could be easily confused in the definition.
