Big Inch Big Block Cooling question (572)
**First Post here and apologies for the long-ish post, but I'd rather be thorough and buy everything one time.
So I went through several searches for water pumps, cooling issues..etc trying to find some answers to questions that I have, but didn't come across anything that really fit.
1. The car is a 69 and I have a 572 big block that's currently on the engine stand, but going in soon. I am concerned about overheating as I've heard of a lot of issues with big inch motors and staying cool.
The research I've done so far has pointed me to the Stewart stage 2 as being one of the best water pumps on the market, but it's currently backordered until at least late July. I've also seen the Edelbrock and Weiand having good reviews. Anybody have good experience with any of these on big inch motors?
2. The 3-core aluminum radiator in the car now and direct drive fan (unshrouded believe it or not) have kept the 396 (in the car now) nice and cool, even in 85+ temps in stop and go traffic. I've seen a max of 192ish on the gauge. Definitely plan to go to a shrouded electric fan setup with the 572. What kind of shroud depth/thickness has everyone had success with? I see most of the pre-fab ones at around 1/2", which seems shallow to me, but maybe that's the standard.
3. Parts collected so far for the swap (am I missing anything obvious here?)
572 10.5:1 compression
BMP heads, full roller motor, Dart Big M block (short deck)
Stant SuperStat 180* thermostat
Holley sniper EFI X-Flow 900CFM
Holley baffled sump tank
Holley billet bypass fuel pressure regulator
All fuel lines / AN fittings
140 amp alternator
GW subframe bushings
Hotchkis frame connectors
Poly motor mounts
*Still need to buy*
Long water pump
Shroud and electric fan
Serpentine conversion kit (CVF 8-rib)
*Below are already in the car*
TKO600
3.5" PST sportsman driveshaft
Strange S60 rear w/ 4.10
