Default 1969 Camaro U joints

When I have my motor pulled and trans out, I am going to replace the U jounts in my drive shaft, the motor will have about 435 HP and a 4 speed. What brand of replacement U joints should I look at, it a show car but does get opened up once in a while also. Thanks, Jerod

If I were you I'd take it to a driveline shop to have it done and balanced.
As for the parts I don't think you can go wrong with Moog.

Spicer Extreme. Moog used to be a good name in suspension parts, back when they were made in the USA. Not any more, and not any more.

Wow really, sad to hear that. I'd still go to a driveline shop for a balance though.

I use the large (truck style) non zerk u joints in my 69. I changed the slip yoke and pinion flange to do so. I agree with the joints Camaro69 said to use. High nickel content.

Seems very over kill to me. 4340 steel is about 5 times stronger then a stock material without any change in design. With those design changes it is more likely 8 to 10 times stronger then stock. If your drive line is set up right the factory u joint is stronger then the driveshaft itself. When you see cars breaking u joints it because something is allowing the rear to twist more then it should. This makes the angle the u joint is working at to be greater it is designed to handle. The other failure mode is if the drive shaft twists a little and puts the u joints out of phase with each other. That can cause an insane amount of stress on the U joint. Those U joints look like something you would have on your 1000hp rock crawler.

FYI 4340 is similar to what snap on makes it sockets from. You can beat this with a ball pen hammer and hammer will take the worst of the damage.

Ok thanks, Its a street show car but I do not dump the clutch at 5,000 RPM so normal going thru the gears with a stock style U joint will be fine. Thanks for the info. Thanks, Jerod
