1968 camaro SS 350 engine casting(s)
I have a 68 camaro with a small block casting of 3914660. I was reading on CRG and it said that the casting numbers for a 1968 SS 350 L48 motor could be
3914660
or
3914678
Is this in fact the case?
I was reading another portion of the site where they say it was the 3914678 casting and call the 3914660 casting a 327. They also say multiple castings could have been used. Thus I am confused. I am wanting to rebuild the motor but want to make sure it is the right block for he SS before I begin.
Thanks for the help!

3914660 1968 327 210-300 hp, 2 bolt main, Passenger car, Chevelle, ChevyII, Camaro, Corvette
3914678 1968 302, 290 hp, 2 bolt main, Z-28
1968 327 210-350 hp, 2 bolt main, Passenger car, Chevelle, ChevyII, Camaro, Corvette
1968 350 295 hp, 2 bolt main, Camaro, Chevy II
The decider is the suffix code on the passenger side of the block in front of the head. If your block is an SS, it would have either an MS or MU code.

Camaro 69,
Thanks for the reply. I figured it was a block stamping thing. But this could have been changed at any time with a re-stamp correct? In this case I would never know right? Any other tell tale signs of the 350?
Thanks again

if your wondering if its the original motor the pad just above where the water pump bolts on should have a stamping that is the same as your camaros vin
if your just wanting a correct casted (period correct block)
you need a 3914678 with the ms or mu code on the front pad as camaro69 stated
this is a stamped pad on a 66 327 just for a reference

Thanks, where did you find the info on the 3914678 casting? Like I said above CRG listed two castings 3914678 casting and the 3914660 casting. Are you sure about the 3914678 being the only casting for the 350 SS? If so I need a different block because mine is the 3914660 casting.

68ssmaro, the block info I gave came from here: http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-ca...es.asp?group=6
The 3914660 casting was used for the 327 only.
Also double checking info in my casting numbers book confirms the website's info.
