Muncie 4 Sp/Hurst Shift.. reverse issues
'67 Camaro with M21, Hurst Shifter...
Recently installed new Heads/Headers etc.. Dad took the first drive and he seems to really have lost his touch with a 4 speed.. Wondering if he bent something in the Hurst?
Came home to find the 1/2nd shift rod snapped (previous owners apparently snapped it and welded it back together, snapped in same place after Dad drove it) Ordered new rod and installed.. Re-adjusted all three linkages and tested the shifter with car NOT running..1-4 no problem... Had trouble getting it into Reverse and finally did, but could not get the shifter out of reverse. Got under car and disconnected Reverse linkage, got car back in neutral, and reset linkage.. Tested movement from underneath..
It appears that the linkage has no problem moving the lever into Reverse, but the angle (or throw) is such that it won't allow the rod to push the shift lever back into neutral. Best way to describe it is its over top dead center if that makes sense. Basically seems to be pushing at the wrong angle.
The Reverse shifter plate (adjustable side) also seems to be angled towards the passenger side of car. When inserting the adjustable "nut" with the bushing, it doesn't sit squarely into the hole. Its at an angle.
I'm wondering if:
A) the reverse rod could have gotten bent and now isn't angled right to push the shifter lever in the correct direction for neutral. Or if it's the correct rod in the first place (but no prior issues)
B)The Reverse plate (under the console) being at an angle such that the adjustable fitting doesn't seat correctly.
C) Or is there an issue with the actual transmission, where the reverse lever is traveling too far, b eyond the point where the linkage is able to push on it at the correct angle to get back into neutral.. ( I've read that as long as the levers move easily and into gear and back to neutral, that indicates no issue with the Muncie?)

Wondering if you have the correct shift levers on the transmission? The adjustable pin should fit at right angles with no slop when adjusted right.. Easy to get a transmission with the wrong levers/rods for the Camaro
Put all levers in neutral and shifter into neutral.
Disconnect rods at the adjustable end.
Insert a 3/16 inch diameter rod into shifter body and each shifter lever, see the slots/holes?
Adjust the adjustable ends to slip fit into shifter levers.
As suggested, rods should be right angle to the levers.
