I own a 69 Camaro z28 with a 454 ci engine with hp somewhere around 550. Transmission is a 3 speed automatic with mega shifter. Rear end is a Moser with 411 gears. The car has a 3500 stall converter. My problem is the car was used for drag racing and is geared down so low that it is difficult to use for street or freeway driving. I want to switch transmissions to something that is compatible with my big block and I can cruise with both street and freeway. I prefer an automatic with overdrive. Can anyone recommend a good reliable transmission? Thanks

 

4L80e would be best for the hp you have, a 4L60 will work and can be built to handle your hp. i have a level 3 from patc and its supposed to handle to 600 hp. performabuild has good products as well. the 4L60 is not electronic so it would be better (from the electonic side) than a 4L80e which i dont think is made non electonic. you can get a computer box for it so it will work.
