I have a 454 with 049 heads and a nice cam in front of a close ratio sag. Here's the deal, the sag will be coming out at some point but I have to use it at the moment. I am running a 8.5 10 bolt and was wondering what you guys thought would be a good gear ratio to go with. There will be a Muncie going in the car at some point that is for sure. So I'm intending on setting the rear end up as if I had it now. Any help would be appreciated!

 

I would go with a 3.55 or so.

 

Both trans have the same final ratio, so the gearing wont change with either. I'm running a 3.42 behind my big block, and I really like the ratio. Don't really need much lower with the torque you'll have available.
