Default 68 camaro 10 bolt??????

ok...i have a 10 bolt 8.5" in my car now. question....what 10 bolts did they put in a 68 camaro? 8.2 or 8.5? i want to put 30 spline axles/spool in my car and will be able to since its an 8.5....but i cant find any for a 68 camaro...only for novas. So i am wondering if this in not the original rearend and something else. So did they even put 8.5 10 bolts in 68 camaros?

No,only 8.2 10 bolt and 8.875 12 bolt.8.5's never arrived 'till '71.Check the codes on the tubes and you'll know for sure.If you knew what to look for,it's easy to spot the difference between the two.If you do want an 8.5 check '71 or newer Nova/Ventura.If built right they'll withstand plenty of torque/horsepower if running a healthy small block.Big Blocks and 12 bolts are a different thing.Hope this helps,

ok...i found out my rearend was from an early 70's nova. So i now installed a new richmond ring pinion, auburn posi, upgraded to moser axles (very nice), new bearings/seals, and put on a moser differential plate with main cap supports.....should hold up no problem!

Should be plenty strong for anything you want to do. Only thing else I'd add (did add to mine!) is a C clip eliminator kit, so if an axle breaks you wont lose it out the side!

Too late for the c-clip eliminators...already installed wilwood rear brakes. It would be a different spacing for those axles...also i found out my richmonds were no good...so i went with Motive High Performance gears....very smooth. I really like em....just gotta break em in now easy.

C clip eliminators don't use different axles, or spacing. The C clips are just not used once the outboard bearing housings are bolted to the 4 bolts on the end of the axle housing.
