67 327/275 hp with powerglide and 12 bolt

I have a quote for the 2004r from Bowtie Overdrives for a level 2. They state it will handle a steady diet of around 450/500 hp and 400/450 ft/lbs. of torque. I figured with the 327 that would hold up just fine?? I wouldn't mind the powerglide if i could get more torque out of it for off the line fun. I can get a th350 pretty cheap just figured the overdrive would be nice. My wife will also drive the car from time to time so i have to account for that. The debate between the 2004r and 700r4 is all over the place with which one works better!

I have the exact same car as you, numbers matching 327, 275 hp convertible. Only marina blue with a white top & a 3:55 posi 12 bolt. I switched my power glide out for a TKO 5 speed. Now I'm the coolest kid on my block. This is a popular combo. Lot's of people like to row gears in an old muscle car. With the overdrive 5th gear I get better gas mileage than the pg & much better response off the line.

Finally decided on a transmission. Getting a 2004r from Gear Star and cant wait! It comes with a 3 year warranty and everything needed for the swap. Only decision left to make is 3.73 or 4.10? With OD and 4.10 they said I will be running at 2300 to 2400 rpm.

It'll still be a huge improvement at the stoplight but she'll also purr nicely down the freeway and get decent gas mileage doing it.

Powerglides came in two favors - L6 have a 1.84:1 ratio and V8's came with 1.76:1.
A THM350 with 6 inch tailshaft would be a direct replacement, 2.52:1 first gear ratio, but 1.00:1 top gear ratio and would have to add a ball stub on the bottom hole in carb lever and a cable bracket holding the kickdown cable.
