Default Original panel repair vs reproduction

I'd like to see the pros and cons on this subject.

I'm starting a restoration, and the doors are in decent shape, just some minor rust in both bottom corners. At what time do you decide to give up on the original and buy a reproduction?

Thanks

I would say talent and cost.

Question: Is this something you can fix yourself? How much time will you have invested in fixing the rust? Will your repair last? How much will it cost you to repair it yourself? Is it worth your time to fix it yourself?

The way I see it, it's about resources and your willingness to depart from them and I'm talking about time and money.

If you have somebody else do the work, what is the cost? But more importantly, can they do the job right without the rust coming back in 3 years which will ruin your paint? What's cheaper? Repairing the rust or purchasing a new door. Now what's cheaper, repairing the rust, getting a nice paint job and having the rust come back and having both repaired.

It's about cost, quality and your own individual talents.

You bring up very good points.

My talents are on the mechanical side of this project. As well, the disassembly and reassembly. Any body repair I will leave to the professionals. As far as cost is concerned, I will be paying either way. I'll pay hours of body repairs for the door, with minor rust, or I'll simply buy a new door. Either way, I'm out the money. I just wanted to make sure it is not a mistake to through out an OEM door...
