Default 68 frame stand question

I'm working on a '68 Camaro. The distributor is up against the firewall. Meaning it's a touch away from rubbing against it. Dropped a 396 in it with a TH400 reverse pattern. Got the crossmember just holding the trans up now. My question is ... Is there a difference between a big block & a small block with the frame stand? As far as I know, this car had a small block with a TH350. Had a hell of a time to mount the motor to the stands & it seems like it's sitting just a hair too far back

Or, should I call them engine frame mounts? Is there a difference between mounts for BBC & SBC? The dilemma is that the distributor is just about against the firewall & can't get the trans dipstick housing in place either.

Big block frame brackets has the drivers side taller than the passenger side, to rock the engine to the right by 1". I've seen sources stating the big block brackets/motor mounts also move the engine forward almost an inch for more firewall clearance. Be sure to use a big block trans crossmember, or modify yours, so that the trans mount is moved to the passenger side the same 1". Without doing that, your engine/trans centerline will be tracking at an angle, throwing off your pinion angle (relationship between front & rear yokes), which can give you driveshaft vibrations and chew up your u-joints. Here are a couple of write-ups about the frame brackets:

Thanks for replying Camaro 69, nice link & very informative. Got a trans crossmember from '69 Camaro with a BBC & TH400. He changed it to a tubular one. If the mounts currently on the frame are from a small block & with the cap on, it has 1/8 - 1/4 inch clearance the 1 inch forward would be perfect fit.
