Question Wrong Cam?

Went to a local speed shop and based on some feedback I was given the wrong CAM for my car. The motor is still on the stand w/o the intake installed so if I need to replace it, the time is now. Based on the below features primarily the 4:10 Gears and 3000 stall I was told that I was directed to the wrong cam by the shop.

Installed on 9/4/10 - ELGIN CAM E922P 214/224 @ 0.050 Valve Lift 0.444/0.466. I was told that this is to weak with the stall converter and gear setup after further investigating.

My intention is to have a mid range - aggressive cam. Primarily going to drive street with the occasional drag strip. Any assistance or cam recommendations would be appreciated.

with that set up i would go with a comp cam 280 magnum cam, nice rough idle, very streetable, nice and torquey!! will work great with a 3000 stahl, i would use the springs that comp sells for this cam as well!!
i have this cam in a 355 i have with 10:1 cr and it performs very well also running a 3000-3500 stahl and 3:73`s

Called the speed shop and the guy who sold me the Elgin stands by his recommendation. Everyone else I talk to disagrees so I'm going to change it while the engine is still out of the car.

Called Com Cams they recommended 274 Extreme (P/N 12-246-3) (0.490 Lift, 230/236 @ 0.050)

ISKY Recommended a little bigger one (0.510 Lift, 236/236 @0.50) - Guessing thats probably a little big for my car.

So far I'm at the 280 Magnum or the 274 Extreme Comp Cam. I want to get this thing back together so I can enjoy it before it snows.

Any other suggestions?
