Ticking noise and lower idle
Is that engine equipped with solid or hydraulic lifters? You can't buy a single spring you buy them in a set but that is not a bad thing since you should replace them all anyway. It looks like you have single springs w/dampers which have a lower seat pressure and 1.5 rockers so I suspect you have hydraulic lifters. You need to measure the outside diameter of the spring and then go to Summit or Jegs and look for the same dia spring. You can change the springs without removing the heads by removing the spark plug and inserting an air hose fitting and pressurizng the cylinder with compressed air to hold the vavles closed one cylinder at a time. If you have never done this kind of work before you probably should have a shop do it.
Finally have some time to get back on the Camaro and have been asking around for more advice. Most folks are suggesting the same as here- pull 1 good spring, have it measured and replace all 16 with a comparable spring. Is there anything special I need to do when putting the rockers back on?
Unfortunately, I have no specs on the cam so a few guys suggested tearing the motor down, removing the cam and finding a serial number to trace specs on it. Do you guys see why this would be necessary to replace springs? Is there any special adjusting procedure I need to follow that requires cam specs?
