Hey guys, so I just bought a 96 Z28 manual with 80K miles. Whenever I give it some gas (in gear), a ticking noise occurs... could this be a rod knocking, or close to beingthrown?

 

Rods don't tick, they knock. Could be lifters, or an exhaust leak. If you don't hear it as an engine noise, either at idle or when you give it gas, then I'm gonna say an exhaust leak. The donut gaskets between the manifolds and header pipes are a common place for leaks. Also at the catalytic converter mounting flange.

 

I think it is a engine noise though, what would be the best way to find out if it is an exhaust leak?

 

well is it a very loud ticking noise? and as Camaro 69 said, is it a tick or more of a knock cause its sounding like exhaust leak to me, however im wondering if your hearing the injectors. when you say giving it gas do you mean just taking off or petal to the metal?

I have a 97 camaro ss.. and i seem to have the same problem.. but its an automatic trans.. so any thing different or shud i get my exhaust checked? please let me know. thanks..
