Terminology question
ORIGINAL: 1969 SS
here is a very little known fact about helping find an original optioned car when the numbers just aren't clear enough.
most of the optioned cars (SS, RS, RS/SS, Z-28) came with a trunk spoiler. because of this, the trunk was heavier and wouldn't open well. to solve this, GM put the different slots in the trunk supports to change tension. if the car you look at doesn't have a trunk that opens and springs up pretty easily, the car is almost surely a fake and the spoiler was added later. most people don't know this and don't go through the trouble of moving the springs[:-]

But instead, I will perhaps try to start with a great base and try to match that look. I'm also a big fan of the Tuxedo Black, Bowtie look. I've seen so many possible deals and then there's always something that will end up costing big bucks to alter on them. No offense to anyone, but I've always hated the basic common blue Camaro color. I've seen decent deals on frame-off restos, but the metal dash and eveything inside is blue, too. So even if you painted the exterior you'd have the entire interior to redo as well.
The guy rejected the offer I made yesterday, but I'm hoping we may have met in the middle on price. I should know by later this afternoon after he consults his partner. If this works out, I will be sure to post pics when I can. I imagine I wouldn't get it delivered until late next week. I think you guy's will agree it's a pretty sharp car. And again, I've arrived at the point where I don't care if there is even a protecto-plate on the car, lol, as long as its got the features I'm concerned with[8D]
Okay fellas, we came to an agreement on the 69' I told you about and it's pretty much a done deal. The guy who is selling through his dealer friend will be installing PDBs this week. The car does not have PS. Here is a link: http://justmusclecars.com/
Click on the "69'Z28" on the 2nd row and then clcik on the pic again for 40 different photos. Tell me what you think.

looks decent but............you should have never bought a car from just those pics. those are no where near detailed enough to see it all. if you were buying from just those pics, you totally should have hired an independent appraiser for anywhere from $75. to $125. so he could go access the car. they even take the car for a road test to see if anyhting is amiss.I always do this after I get a ton of detail specificpics, wiring and window corners especially.you have no idea how many things I've missed buying cars online, that without an appraiser, I would have been screwed, and I have lots of experience at this.
I was just at an auction today http://www.neccaa.com/and this is just a small portion of the cars and there were cars there that looked great in pictures but in person, they sucked. I really wish you luck. I'm not trying to be a killjoy here but I'm just trying to make you aware because there are so many "professional" builders out there that can make a pretty picture but, in reality, they are total hacks. it' swasy to sound like a pro to someone who doesn't know a lot. I usually have the people that are interested in the car set up communications with the prospective buyer first, then after they are done I will call him and 90% of the time the seller's story changes...especially if it's a speciality dealer because once I start asking questions, I get a real lot of :
"I'm not sure...I really don't know...well, that's what I was told so I'm kind of in the dark here"
again I wish you luck and I would call him and see if you can have an independent appraiser (that doesn't mean one he knows) go look at the car. if the seller is against it, that tells you to run fast

Hey 1969, I really appreciate the post, and your advice is very wise. I still have time to do as you suggested, but I'll have to figure out how to find an appraiser in that area (suggestions?). I have a little breathing room since the car will be worked on (power disc brakes) during this coming week.
I happened on that sitre by chance....following a couple of links from somewhere else. It turns out that the car had just been posted that same day. In other words, I admittedly had that "I better grab this one for this price" mentality, before someone else beats me to it. Again, from what I've been looking at, this car is underpriced (comparing to the "norm" prices I've seen). The closet thing I've seen to this was a real SS with the same basic pkg (built 350/4spd/12 bolt etc.), for 24K and it was sold a week before I called about it.
