Default Powerglide to TH350 conversion

I'm told that it is pretty easy to replace a powerglide with a TH350. My powerglide needs a rebuild and a buddy of mine says he has a short shaft TH350 that will fit. What are the issues involved in making this conversion?

You will need to grind a notch/clearance in the shifter detent plate for allowing manual 1st gear selection.
You will need a Turbo torque convertor, ie, THM350 or THM400, PG input shaft is smaller, so PG t/conv will not fit.
You will need the kickdown bracket for the new trans.
Change t/conv seal and rear seal before install.
Change oil filter and add new oil.
Use a turkey baster to suck out old oil from t/conv and add a couple qts before installing t/conv into trans - be sure conv is seated into trans.
Use a oil cooler cleaner to the lines and rad cooler before usage of new trans.
Thread coolant lines onto new trans before mounting trans to engine. Handtighten cooling lines ensuring good thread engagement before tightening, cuts down on leaks.
Replace dipstick tube seal.

All good advice! Read up on how to properly adjust the kick down linkage before taking it out for a ride.

I've had several hot rods with TH350s in them and my last one had a 700R which was much better. Now its a matter economics. I can put a 350TH in much easier and cheaper so that's what I think I'll do. Thanks for the help guys.

Well, it's my turn now. Time to swap out the Power glide for a rebuilt Turbo 350. I know it will bolt in pretty easy. So, the kick down bracket and grinding into the detent plate? Is there anywhere I can see some photos and get a visual on what I need to do? Hoping to have this done by the end of the first week of January '17 ...

Looking to get a sweet ride going. Once the top end swap is done, I'm hoping to have the tranny in too so I can get a new feel for loving this car.

Thx in advance.

The bracket for the cable is the bolt-on to two intake bolts type.
The detent plate is on the shifter and will need to remove the rivets so plate can be ground - follow the existing PG - L notch.
While you're at it, put a deeper notch in Neutral for a neutral lockout - safety thing.

The 350 will bolt right in with its own torque converter. You will need a vacuum line coming from the manifold and will go to the modulator. 350 have a kick down cable that will need to go to the carb and mount to the manifold,It should come with the trans as well as the filler tube. You might have a hard time finding a bracket(cable doesn't have to be hooked up to make the trans shift) that is done with the vacuum to the modulator. The cable is just for kick down so.On the shifter in the car we would just make sure it would hold in park.

Right on guys. The trans did come with a chrome filler tube and the cable already attached to it.

So, just need to do some grinding on the shifter plate then. Probably be real simple once I get it apart. =)

Thanks. I'm hoping to do my motor top end kit in the next week or so. Then I'll try the tranny as another swap so I can see the difference in the 1. motor upgrades. 2. tranny swap. 3. I've got a 10 bolt posi that I need to check out pretty soon.

Rains around here are keeping me from playing with the car. Got the garage ready to pull the car in for the work. Shop is full of all of the equipment, parts and tools.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
