Opinions on an eBay L35
On a side note, dealer got back to me on that SS/RS that's close by. Here's what he came back with:
Differential number: 3894860
I gathered is a 12 bolt rear and probably original to the car. I suppose I still need the axle code to verify further?
Transmission number: He said the oil pan had been replaced with a chrome one...not sure what that means unless he's telling me that a number was on the original oil pan? Also he said that he couldn't find one or it didn't exist on the trannie itself????
Engine numbers: He said the block casting numbers were too hard to locate. Not enough room to access the number because of it being behind the distributor. He did come clean and say the heads were not original but aluminum and they had these numbers: 4k4459529 and F1120CTA.
What do you guys think? It's an automatic transmission and correct me if I'm wrong but the 67 only came with the 2 speed powerglide right....the TH350 and TH400 weren't available until 69? I suspect I should check and even see if that's what comes with the car right?
Right, the TH350 wasn't put into production cars till 69. It may have a TH400, since those had been out since 65. The numbers aren't on the pan. If your trans is a 400, and has numbers, it would be on the case above the pan, on the drivers side. A simple visual of the pan will tell what it is: Automatic Transmission Identification
For the engine, see if you can get the numbers off the block pad in front of the passenger side head. The suffix code is what tells the engine build: Camaro Decoding help on Chevy-Camaro.com
However, if the block has been decked, those numbers would have been shaved off.

Hey Zak,
I'm sorry, I just came upon your posting and I live on the east side of PA but know some people out on the west side that I may have been able to go check out the Camaro.
It looked like a nice car but your right, to pay that kind of money for a car unseen or take the word of someone else, that could be a costly mistake.

As for the rear end, I asked him to grab the numbers off of the passenger's side axle.
As for the engine, I sent him your link...we'll see if it's there. It's there on my car and it's pretty obvious so I'm not sure how he's missing it...
Anything else I should ask?
Bruce, the car is still available. It's in Brea...not sure if you know where that's at...close to Pasadena area. I want to go take a look at it but don't want to waste a 2 hour round trip drive on a car that has had a ton of parts replaced. Furthermore, I'm fairly new to the Camaro world...just bought a 68 and I'm not entirely sure where all the numbers are located. About all I've been able to find on my car are the one's on the head.
This one here is local (about an hour away) and decodes as a factory L48 with RS trim pacakge. If you go back to page 2 of this thread you can see that the dealer sent me a pic of the COWL tag: 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS | Brea, California | OC Classic Cars
Engine was bored out to a 406 so we're trying to figure out if the engine and drivetrain are original. So far all I know is that the diff. decodes as a 12 bolt rear which did come on the 67 SS. Still trying to get axle numbers, trannie and trannie numbers, and engine numbers.
