Default No Idiot Lights

When I turn my key on, I only get a GEN light. The temp, oil and brake lights should be on , but are not. {'69 base, 327)

I removed the instrument cluster and checked voltages there. I ruled out bulbs and the circuits on the cluster. When the key was turned on, I had voltage at the plug for the GEN light, but not the others.

None of the schematics I have are detailed enough to figure this out. Is there a component which is common to all three issues?

I can't tell if the lights work under normal conditions. There was an aftermarket oil pressure gauge when I purchased the car, which shows good pressure. As far as temp, I have no indication, which scares me. I replaced the water temp sensor, no change.

Any electrical gurus out there?

Oil light - if Camaro originally had idiot lights, the pressure sensor is a switch once 5 PSIG is generated - switch opens and turns off the light.
Since you say an aftermarket gauge is installed, most installers would have installed a 'Y' to keep the switch and provide a port for the oil tube to gauge. Easiest install is to install pressure and leave oil light wire tucked away.

Temp light - again, comes on when ign key is in START position. Temperature switch this sensor is and by maker's design, usually comes on at 256°F.

I'm not sure what you meant by this statement. Are you saying the sensor is the switch? If so, I already swapped the sensor, and had no change. Maybe I need to check continuity in the wiring harness.

Thanks for your feedback!

If warning light equipped, temperature sending unit is a thermal switch - gets to 256°F and switch closes turning on the HOT light.

I understand that the temp switch will turn on at 256, but shouldn't it also light up when I turn the key on, to test the circuit?

If the light is not supposed to come on, I'm troubleshooting a system that ain't broke. I will trust the new sensor I installed.

If it is supposed to come on, I have an electrical issue, and can't assume the light will come on when needed.

I just need to know if it is supposed to come on when I start the car.

Post 3: Temp light - comes on when ign key is in START position for bulb test
You can ground the sensor wire just to see if HOT light does come on
