Stupid Question??? Not so, I've personally seen Gen II's from $500, rusted out POS to $15k for one not 100% restored to matching #'s etc. but worth the money and all inbetween. I looked at a 69 RS/SS yesterday that the body was great, interior was toast and the engine was running, smoking a little, the trans was on a creeper on the floor of the shop and the guy was @ $20k and wouldn't budge. So there are some ideas. I can't beleive you other GEN I guys don't know exactly what your cars are worth either. You ned to know if you have them insured, if something happens and you don't know, your gonna get hosed. By the way Greasemonkey, there are no "Stupid Questions" everyone on here will ask one, you find out a lot of us don't know the answer, you should see some of the one's I've asked.....

The rule is, it's worth what someone is willing to pay for them. It's that simple. And it changes, drastically recently, depending on the economy and what's in demand at the time. Barrett-Jackson comes on in a week, then you can get an idea of what mid level and top-flight cars are worth. But, as I said, it will be different than last year and significantly less than 2007. E-bay is probably the best place to see approx. values of the cars now. Although some people still have their 1st gen's pticed WAYYY out of the stratosphere for the cars they are trying to sell. Local car show level cars are probably worth $20-30K right now that I see... Also, I've found that location will affect the price of the car. I bought my last Vette, truck and the 69 Camaro from e-bay just because it was WAY cheaper to buy the cars from mid-America than the northeast or Hawaii....

what a members car is worth and what the going prices are, are like apples and oranges!?
i paid 9400 for mine replaced engine with fresh 355 and rebuilt the m20 and new 11inch clutch set up and have the numbers 327 on a stand would i sell mine for 9400 hell no.
a 69 rs/ss if authentic is not unreasonable at 20g in that condition considering they sell for 50g and up restored!!

I Never said the '69 wasn't worth it, just not to me at this point in time. You said it though, they are worth what someone will pay or sell for on any given day. I've seen cars appraise at one number and sell for a heck of a lot more and less. But, for some of the guys that own 1st and 2nd Gen cars that are headturners or even fingerpointers to have no clue as to what their car is worth, kinda makes you say humm...
And yes the '69 is authentic, known the guy a while and the car has been on jackstands in his shop for the 15 years since I 1st saw it.

Humm....who said none of us have a clue as to what our cars are worth? Not I. Mine's insured for $25k, but I doubt that GreaseMonkey is looking for something in that range. Yet, mine does fit his criteria of "Not necessarily a total original car, but not a project...."
That's why he's been getting all of the "what the market will bare" answers. He could find a decent driver for $10k, maybe less with a desperate seller. So to answer his question with a number, since he's at least looking for a driver, anywhere from $8k to well beyond $100k would be a reasonable market (GreaseMonkey was non-specific about what model he would like). Overall condition, and option package of the car is what drives the price.

69, I said some, not none. But that's what I'm talking about, you have an idea of what it will take to replace your vehicle or investment and have it insured for that. Easy to do and smart! Grease Monkey was asking what to expect to spend and I hope all this banter has given him a good idea. Sounds like rusted out s-boxes are anywhere from $500 - $3k and fully restored some are worth $50k, pretty wide spread. There's also a lot of info here for those inbetween. BTW, I think your vehicle would net you more if you sold it, IMO. If your like me, you'd have to really need to sell it to consider it, lol.

Default
