Default New gas tank

I just bought this car about 3 weeks ago. It is my fourth 69 Camaro. It has a new gas tank but the tube is too high to fill it with a normal gas pump. I need to use a gas bottle. Is there a way to lower it about an inch? I need to drop it to check the ground on the sending unit because the gas gauge is not working.

I was never able to get mine to fill right, even when it was only 5 years old with the stock tank.

You may have to twist the filler nozzle to get it to flow, or, worst case, use gas cans and transfer from the cans using a siphon hose. Suck, I know, but that's why I put in a Mustang tank years (decades) ago.

I found this problem with mine when I tightened the tank straps too much. I loosened the straps to lower the rear of the tank about an inch, and all good now....

Yeah, I could do that but I think it would rattle. So I was contemplating putting some carpet pad between body & tank, then some thinner pad between straps & tank.

That plan didn't work. So I'm thinking blocks of neoprene placed between tank & body. Still open to any suggestions here.......

What if you lower just one end? Say, lower the front, which would tilt the filler up, or lower the rear, tilting it down. I remember, back when gas stations were single pump, that I would have better luck filling it if the car was at an angle; unfortunately, I don't remember what the angle was.

I got some thicker pad from a carpet layer friend, much better now. Also, rock the tank back towards the front of the car, rebend straps to conform to tank. Bolt up, then use a 2nd nut, with some red lock tight, on each bolt to prevent from backing off. Works like a charm. Sure could use some schematics for this beast.
