Default need help finding out about car

My husband has a 1968 camaro that he is trying to figure out if it is a z28. We have done a title search and it didn't return anything useful. It does not have the original motor and the sticker for the tire size is missing (located on door of glove box), there was a sticker it is just not legible for the tire size. The rear end is multi leaf it has power steering and disc brakes on the front. The car was built in Norwood, OH. In the title search we found it went from Ohio in 2005 to Georgia in 2006 to us in Illinois in 06. The car has been repainted twice. It was originally butternut yellow. It does not have bumper guards or wood grain interior. But is a factory small block 4 speed. Any help you could send our way would be much appreciated!!!

It's going to be tough without the original engine so good luck, only a little over 7000 cars were Z28's in '68 so somewhat rare.

There is no way to be sure,,,,, honestly more then half the all numbers matching Z28's you see at shows that are in near perfect condition are clones. See you can't prove it is or it isn't real. There is no GM documentation that can not be faked. Even if you found the build sheet under the seat it would have to go through a authentication process to prove age. The fakes you can buy on the internet are very good. The fake aging they can do is amazing.

Welcome, Tina, to the Club.
Good suggestions given, and beware of clones/fakes.
You might read up over at www.camaros.org in gaining more facts on a 68 Z/28.
Glovebox sticker may have been altered because the Z/28 model is the only one with 15 inch wheels/tires. So if sticker read 14 inch, it may have been scrubbed off.
You can check part number of sticker as different P/N's for stickers.
Trim tag, next to master cylinder, for 68 only tells date made, interior configuration, and color, and body paint color, CRG will tell you on TT decoding, plus Fisher Body TT sequence number in relation to VIN numbering.
A quick inspection behind drvr's rear wheel an index card size plate welded onto frame rail for drvr side dual tailpipe support.
Yes, there were only 7199 Z/29's made.
Good luck in the research, let us know what happens.
As said, documentation, the Bill Of Sale, Window sticker, broadcast sheet, and POP (Protect-O-Plate) - the credit card size warranty card, tells the born-with configuration.
