Default Just bought the wife her dream car... could use a little direction :)

Hey Folks,

First off hello, i'm new and will most likely be lurking on here often.

Wife always wanted a 69 camaro... Found her a 67 instead for a good deal that needs a little restoring. Day 1 we've got it running healthy, got new tires (others were flat) however when I tried to take it for a spin, I found the rear wheels turn but the front wheels do not. If I jack the car up I can manually spin them, but when I try to drive it's as if they are locked up and the rear tires just peel out in our garage.

Any suggestions? Wife is ecstatic to have this car, granted we still need to sand the surface rust and paint, but it could be worse. I'd really like to get it up and running for her asap.

Will the tires turn (while jacked) with the engine running? I am thinking the power brakes are shot. Or, the is an obstruction and when you lift the car the tires are then moved away from the material stoping the tires.

You really should have someone who knows what there doing go over the brakes and suspension parts. Remember you are talking about a 40 year old car that was designed to last 5 to 8 years. If the car has been sitting for awhile there could be a ton wrong with it that has just not shown up yet.

The dealership i worked at once took a 68 vet on trade. The car had been sitting for about 3 years. we had to replace the gas tank and lines I rebuild the carb and gave it a tune up. I also did a state inspection on the car,, and I forgot to do one thing. I was having a blastwith this 327/4speed during the test drive. I came up on a semi, I was doing about 80 and when I hit the brakes hard the petal just went right to the floor(they worked fine up to that point). I got her slowed down and I eat up a good bit of the clutchs life in the process. Seals in 3 of the 4 calipers blow out. There was no external signs of leaking before the test drive. The test I forgot to do was the brake pressure test. Rookie mistake that almost cost me my life.
