Help to Identify this Muncie 4 Speed M22?
Posted this in Drivetrain forum with no response....
I was told this is a M22, Can anyone tell by these pics?
Thanks,
If it is a M22 it does not have the Famous Whine... Front seal is leaking so Im going to have it gone through and have M22 Gears installed.
What should I expect to pay ballpark for them to install new gears and get it all sealed up?
Any advice on M22 W vs. Close Ratio?
Its going in a 68 Big Block Car with prolly 425HP. 373 rear gear.
Thanks!
Michael

As far as expected cost would be about 1000 to 1200 to rebuild it. If you want to change the gear set it may be impossible as all gear sets do not fit all cases. You also wont to have it completely rebuilt and go through everything. It is hard to tell but it looks like studs with nuts on them at the shifters. This would be only found on 1968 or earlier 4 speed and bolts hold the shifter levers in place on 1969 and newer. The case number indicates the case is 1970 or newer. You may have a mixed number of parts from different years transmissions in the car. Not good or bad just is. You might want to consider getting a newer transmission to day caselogic makes newer and heavier duty cases.

You have a mixed bag of stuff in that thing, it's anyone's guess what somebody put inside it. The case is a 1971-74, but the 10 spline input shaft (what you have) was used from 1963-1970. Input shafts on the 1971-74 (what your case is) had 26 splines.
