I'm currently in the process of completing all the metal work on my 68'.

The route I took was to goto the local swap meet (Englishtown, NJ swap meet) and got as much metal as they had. No shipping charge, and I could check every piece out before purchasing.. recieved huge discount also.

The next move I made was to decide on classic original look, pro-street, or pro-touring.. I went with pro touring; Mini tubs, a lot of custom pieces, etc..
Keep in mind with the mini tubs if your going that route; a good metal shop can custom make the tubs, deleting the need for inner and outer wheel housing purchase for the rear. My trunk floor is also going to be fabricated to accept a fuel cell built in.

Many people say to buy U.S. stamping for body pieces, but in fact, most still need to be adjusted many times and reworked for a precise fit.

My metal was bought from Ground Up restorations (everything but a few small pieces)

My tires I purchased used just for mock up on the wheels (39 bux a tire for 315-35-20 with 70% tread)

Eliteswheels.com; purchased the boss 338 black from them cheapest

Wheels and tires were purchased first to prepare for rear axle housing mock up to give the correct measurement for Moser Engineering for a 9" fabricated housing, around $800 shipped with brackets and ends.

Purchased the Airbar from ridetech (through summit) with the muscle bar for future air ride suspension (couldn't afford to throw 9k for suspension prior to the metal work being done, so just the 4 link will be fitted in with the rear for the mini tubs)

That is where I stand with the car right now. Came into this knowing very little to nothing about restoration, classic cars, pro-touring, but through forums and many phone calls with manufacturers and distributers, i've learned how to get by.

Right now I'm just trying to stay on track to get what I really want in the car, and not settle on something else.

Thats my situation, but again, whichever route you are going depends on where you start.. for instance, my car was a rust bucket.

Companies i've dealt with so far;
Ground Up restoration; very good
SummitRacing; very good, but don't settle on their website search, call them instead
Eliteswheels.com; cheapest I've found for the wheels I was looking for
K&K tires; used wheels in many sizes good for mock up (for me it worked, my car will probably not be driving for a couple more years)

Good luck and don't forget to take pix of every process!

well the way i was thinking about going was to get like a rolling chassis or something and put disk breaks on it and nice suspension but im not exactly sure what a good company would be to order the frame from. and opinions on that?
