generator light comes on

Default generator light comes on

hey guys, im new to this forum...just picked up my 68 with 327...nothing special. just a coupe with rs front end conversion. anyways, the generator light comes on while engine is running, but slowly goes off when rpm is rev'd up. just wondering if i need a new alternator. thanks ahead...

I would assume so. The alternator is needing more RPM go get the charge up. May be the voltage regulator. Easy way to find out is to run it by an Auto Zone or Oriellys, they will check it out right there.

If your car still has the factory setup, you have an external voltage regulator, mounted on the drivers side of the radiator core support. You can check the alternator output with a volt meter. If it's putting out in the neighborhood of 14 volts, replace the voltage regulator.
